Johnnie has had 21 years in the restaurant industry and started in South Africa at the 5* Sandton Sun Hotel. Since then he has trained at Chez Gerrard in Charlotte Street and the Ebury Wine-Bar in Belgravia before opening Frere Jacques with his father in 1994.
Johnnie then trained in Central London going on to manage Micheline Star restaurants such as Leiths, Benares and La Trompette before returning to Frere Jacques last year. Johnnie brings a wealth of experience and “loves to be back in the fold”.
“Frere Jacques represents something uncommon in Kingston. We are definitely not part of a chain and I am extremely proud of the relaxed atmosphere that we create with simple but delicious food and great service”.
“All of the staff find working here a real bonus as we are literally yards from the river with probably the greatest view in London and the regular guests along with the those who come for something special always add to a great ambiance.”
Johnnie loves traveling and exploring restaurants and food markets, especially in the South of France and Northern Spain and you will find a few of his ideas cropping up in some of our daily Special dishes. Be warned.
Such is the nature of our customer relationship that Johnnie would be delighted to hear from a customer if they have a favorite dish. “Give me a few days to order it in and I am sure that Ron will be able to execute it to perfection”.
